24 V brushless operators with metal internal gearing

Swing and sliding gates that open thousands of times a month. The difference between an operator that lasts years and one replaced every season comes down to three things: the motor type, the gearing and what happens when the power goes out.

The two types

Swing and sliding

Swing gate

One or two leaves turning on their hinges. The operator mounts on the post or on the arm, depending on available space and leaf weight.

Typical in houses, secondary entrances and service access.

Sliding gate

The leaf slides along a rail. The operator drives the rack and holds the gate in position regardless of wind or slope.

Typical in communities, warehouses and high-traffic parking facilities.

The rams

One actuator per leaf, and the leaf does not drift

A swing gate takes a pair of linear actuators: one per leaf. The chromed rod pushes and holds the leaf in position —open or closed— without depending on wind or the slope of the ground.

The body houses the motor and gearbox; the head anchors to the leaf and the other end to the post. It is the mounting that asks for the least construction work when hinges and post are already in good shape.

Why these and not others

Three technical decisions you notice in year three

The conventional solution220 V, brushes and plastic gearing

Cheap to install. It heats up under continuous use, needs pauses between cycles, loses its brushes and ends up with the plastic pinion stripped under load. When the power goes out, the gate is opened by hand.

Brushless motor

Brushes are the wearing part in a conventional motor: they rub, they wear down and they have to be replaced. A brushless motor has none.

The result: less maintenance, less heat and a considerably longer service life on heavily used gates.

Metal internal gearing

This is where cheap operators fail. With plastic gears, the tooth strips under load — a heavy gate, a gust of wind, a badly set stop — and the motor spins freely.

Metal gearing takes that repeated stress: it is the difference between an adjustment and replacing the unit.

24 volts, with backup

Running on low voltage allows a battery: when the power goes out, the gate keeps opening. Nobody gets locked in or has to release it by hand in the rain.

It is also safer to handle and allows fine control of force and speed.

Heavy duty

A community gate opens hundreds of times a day

220 V operators without electronic control heat up and require pauses between cycles. At the entrance of a 200-unit community, that pause turns into a queue.

The 24 V electronic control manages start and stop: the gate starts gently, picks up speed and decelerates before the stop. That reduces impact on the structure, the rail and the operator itself.

And if something gets in the way, the electronics detect the obstacle and stop or reverse the movement.

How it is selected

  • Leaf weight and length — sets the required force
  • Cycles per day — a house and a community do not ask the same
  • Available space — decides between arm, ram or underground operator
  • Slope and wind — on sliding gates, it conditions rail and fixing
  • Safety — photocells and safety edge according to pedestrian traffic
Integration

The gate obeys the same decision engine

An automated gate is not access control: it is a door opened by a remote that anyone can lend, lose or clone.

Connected to DigiAccess, the opening command comes from the system after verifying the authorization — plate read by the camera, face at the reader, the visitor's digital pass — and every opening is recorded with who caused it.

What changes

  • An authorized plate opens; an expired one does not
  • No more remotes lent between neighbours
  • Every opening is logged, with time and responsible party
  • The visitor enters with their own pass, without borrowing a remote
